Guide to Selling Tonka Trucks

4 Nov

So you want to sell Tonka Trucks? Well that’s good thing. Well let’s have a look at how to do it. The toughest toy trucks of all are also becoming increasingly tougher to find for collectors.

Tonka’s origins begin in1946 with Mound Metalcraft created in Mound, Minnesota. In 1955 the company became Tonka Toys and there truck became their biggest seller. The impact of the Tonka truck concept has been enduring and pervasive, especially the Mighty Dump Truck and associated “Mighty” line of construction equipment models introduced from 1964. The all-metal “Tonka trucks” were sold throughout the world and earned a reputation as being indestructible, although the steel has been increasingly replaced by plastic from the late 1980s onwards.

Tonka trucks have become increasingly collectable over the years. For example, The Tonka Metal Excavator from 1947 can go for as much as £135.

So what do you have? Remember that Tonka started using more plastic pieces as the years went on and these generally do not sell as well.

The Link below has attempted to note enough major differences so that you can determine the age of your truck.

So now you have some information about the truck you have your possession, where should you go to sell them? Ebay is the first obvious choice. It is worthwhile once you have ten details of the truck you have to do similar search in Ebay and see if there are any available already. This will give you an idea of how they are selling on the site and what people are asking for (it’s okay having a price guide, but what are people willing to pay on Ebay, is it worth your while). The most important thing about Ebay is making sure people can see your item – be specific and consider what people will use to search. Don’t just put Tonka Truck – consider the year and also type of truck you have. Make sure you have an accurate picture, don’t just copy and paste form the Internet, people want to be sure of the conditions.

Searching with Google you will find plenty of sites buying and selling Tonka Trucks – keep in mind that although they are wanting to make a profit from your item so there will be some haggling.

If you are selling a lot of Tonka Trucks you could also consider having your own website. Building a website is a lot easier than you think, and this way you will not be having to go through someone else i.e. Ebay or another collector.
